Presentation: "Antarctic Blue"

Is there scientific evidence of the impact of climate change on glaciers? Is the Earth's ice cover really under threat, as we increasingly hear in the media? And do we know what is actually happening at the heart of a glacier? Physicist Tsvetan Parov seeks answers to these questions in his research during the 32nd and 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions. He studied the influence of solar activity on the glaciers of Livingston Island using sensors placed at different depths in the Perunika, Johnson, and Contel glaciers. Measurements show that the freezing point in the Perunica glacier has shifted 7 meters inward in one year, and some cracks have widened from 2 to 5-6 meters. Come and see breathtaking footage, hear the latest data from the icy south, discuss what it tells scientists, and how the Bulgarian scientist's measurements contribute to the global understanding of climate change.

Tsvetan Parov is a Bulgarian physicist, speleologist, and PhD at the Institute for Space Research and Technology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Images from his descents into the crevasses of the glaciers on Livingston Island are among the most impressive photographs from the completed expedition.
