How do you cross through a natural land that was redefined by a century of excavations? ; The answer is to be found as you walk in silence. ; From the summit of Mount Magnodeno you can see three quarries that cut into the mountain. The landscape is harsh, although kind of cosy, but you can hear a sort of stunning noise. Human bodies have changed the environment, and human bodies walk, getting back a political power that finally makes silence possible. We cross through the landscape at the end, with a slow progress, a symbol for a humanity that modifies history, but is also capable of remembering it.; Mount Magnodeno (1241 m) belongs to the Orobie Prealps and is located in the province of Lecco. In the heart of this mountain, one of the most intense excavation activities has been carried out for a century, with three quarries (Vaiolo alta, Vaiolo bassa e Cornello) where lime is extracted. Over the last year I have actively participated in the meetings of the Committee Salviamo il Magnodeno, whose goal is to highlight through an information campaign all the critical issues related to the extraction sites. ; When I realized we’re facing a drastic change, along with strong economic interests involved, I wanted to make a short film that tells us, through a walking performance, the memory of a landscape. In silence. ; The heart of the work of Laboratorio Silenzio (theater group that includes both hearing and deaf people), and inspiration of the project, is the concept expressed by John Cage in the work 4’33. Absolute silence does not exist, because it is always filled with something else. In this case, of bodies that inhabit it.
