KRUM RODRIGUEZ (operator)

Born in Sofia in 1977. He studied photography at the French Academy of Imaging in Bogotá (Colombia) and a few years later graduated with a master’s degree in cinematography from the National Academy of Theater and Film Arts in the class of Prof. Venets Dimitrov. Some of the short films shot there have received prestigious awards at international festivals, including the Golden Tadpole statuette at the largest international cinematography festival Camerimage ’05 in Lodz, Poland, and the Best Cinematography award at the Next Reel ’05 festival in New York for the film “Before Life, After Death” by Drago Sholev. In 2006 won the award for best cinematography in a short film at the Manaki Brothers Film Festival in Bitola, Macedonia for the film “Diving” by director Robert Vukajlo.

He started working professionally in 2002. as an assistant operator in TV commercials, and in 2004. he also got his first job as an operator. He has shot more than 300 TV commercials, working for some of the largest clients and agencies on the market.

He made his feature film debut in 2008. year with the film “Forecast” by Zornitsa Sofia. In 2009 shot the film “Shelter” by Drago Sholev, whose world premiere took place at the San Sebastian IFF in 2010. and has been shown at more than 70 festivals around the world. His third feature film “The Color of the Chameleon”, which is the directorial debut of the cameraman Emil Hristov, was selected in the Discovery program at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival, as well as in the competition programs of international festivals in Thessaloniki, Stockholm, India and others. “Victoria” by Maya Vitkova is the first Bulgarian film with official selection in the competition programs of the festivals in Sundance, Gothenburg and Rotterdam. “Lesson” by Petar Valchanov and Kristina Grozeva is his fifth feature film, he won the Kutxa Award for Best New Director at the San Sebastian IFF ’14, the International Debut Award at the Gothenburg IFF ’15 and the Special Jury Award in Tokyo ’15 .

In 2015 works on the debut film of Ralitsa Petrova – “Godless”, winner of the Grand Prix “Golden Leopard” in Locarno ’16. In the same year he shot the films “Elevator for Patients” (directed by Iglika Trifonova), “Glory” (directed by Petar Valchanov and Kristina Grozeva) and “Voevoda” (directed by Zornitsa Sofia).

In 2017 shot the Turkish-Bulgarian co-production “The Announcement”, whose world premiere is in the Orizzonti program at the Venice Film Festival in 2018, where the film won a Special Jury Prize.

For his cinematography work on the film he was nominated for the annual awards of the Association of Turkish Film Critics SIYAD in 2018. The film “The Father” by Petar Valchanov and Kristina Grozeva won the Grand Prize “Crystal Globe” at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary in 2019, as well as selections at festivals in Toronto and BFI the same year.
