Ivo Rabanser (Italy)

Ivo Rabanser (Italy) – Jury member –  climber (with over 500 ancients – 97 premieres, 7 winter ancients), historian of mountaineering, writer, called “Gaston Rebuffat of the Dolomites” (Gaston Rebuffat, 1921-1985), climber, guide, writer of the Alps]

“My name is Ivo Rabanser and I live with my family in Santa Cristina/Val Gardena from the day I was born. During my childhood, I was fascinated with my maternal Grandfathers’ stories and adventures in the surrounding mountains. So it was inevitable that at an early age I discovered the mountains mountaineering.. I began climbing when I was very young and at the age of 12 I climbed up the Sassolungo. Majestic and imposing, often covered by frightening dark clouds, but always attractive to the individual and which I had seen and admired from my window all my early life. I always thought that happiness was climbing the North Face
of the Sassolungo. I now realize that the attraction is still strong but steadily waning and that every dream and desire of climbing a mountain cannot always be repeated. However, a mountaineer belongs to a very privileged category and can often repeat these moments of happiness as there are an infinite number of mountains
to climb in the world.”, I. Rabanser
