Tess and Hugo recently stumbled upon the extraordinary feat of Alain Ghersen a legendary climber and mountaineer who, in under forty hours, linked three iconic ascents in a single, breathless push: Carnage in Fontainebleau, Le Bidule in the Saussois, and the full Peuterey Ridge on Mont Blanc, all solo. Struck by the sheer audacity of this adventure, Tess envisioned a reimagining of the journey not alone, but alongside Hugo, her partner in both life and the mountains. Yet their version would take a bold and whimsical twist: rather than retracing Ghersen’s path by car or train, they would set off on a tandem bicycle a vehicle neither of them had ever ridden, and one that would surely test the strength of their bond as much as their legs.
Setting out from the sandstone boulders of Fontainebleau with their tandem, affectionately named Roméo, they will pedal across the country in pursuit of Ghersen’s ghost, aiming for the spires of Chamonix. But more than a feat of endurance, their journey is a search for meaning an ode to lightness, to full-hearted commitment, and to the spirit of adventure.
