Gabriele Kanu is a documentary filmmaker and photographer, mountaineer, explorer.
While much of his personal exploration has taken a vertical form through alpinism and the opening of new climbing routes, filmmaking has allowed him to move across horizontal landscapes as well, telling stories that follow people, environments, and journeys through remote territories.
Often working independently, he oversees the entire creative process of his projects, from directing and cinematography to filming and editing. Among his recent works, Sadpara (2024), a medium-length documentary exploring the human dimension behind high-altitude expeditions in the Karakoram, has received multiple awards at international mountain film festivals.
His camera follows him almost everywhere: from climbs, scrambles and mountain trails to the vast Mongolian steppe, the Sahara Desert, or simply around the corner: essentially, wherever a meaningful story seems to unfold.
