Small Steps : Immersion with the Sherpa community
Sherpas are known around the world for guiding climbers to the highest peaks on Earth. But how much do we really know about the challenges shaping their way of life?
A former ultra-trail runner, winner of the UTMB, and three-time Nepali Olympian, Dawa Sherpa now devotes his energy to projects supporting the children and elderly of his home region. Enabling Sherpas to continue living in the environment that defines who they are has become his life's mission.
Invited by Dawa to his native village of Taksindu, a French photographer and filmmaker shares the daily life of the local community before setting out with several Sherpa children on a trek to the sacred lake of Dudhkunda, at an altitude of 4,600 meters.
When people think of the Himalayas, they often picture towering peaks, extreme altitude, and athletic achievement. “Small Steps” instead explores the human connections that take shape through encounters with the people who call these mountains home.
