Tim Macartney-Snape, who lives in Australia, earth’s flattest continent, has a most ambitious plan.
He wants to be the first person to fully climb Mount Everest,
the entire 8850 meters of it, beginning from where the mountain itself is measured- sea level.
Accompanied by his wife of one year, Dr Ann Ward, Tim begins his climb in the sea in India’s Bay of Bengal, ahead of him a 1000 kilometer uphill journey.
In Calcutta, just 10 meters above sea level, he suffers a chest infection due to air pollution. He swims across the Ganges taking care not to swallow a drop of water and reaching the Nepalese border finds it closed, forcing a 200 kilometer detour.
After two months of running and walking, Tim finally reaches Everest Base Camp, two thirds of the way up the Mountain. After various setbacks he climbs to the South Col where he prepares himself for the final thousand meters of his 8850 meter climb. He is exhausted. He is not using bottled oxygen.
Will he find the strength to fulfill his dream?
