Two minutes of skiing from top to bottom need a lot of heart, courage and self-confidence. It provides goosebumps, amazement, shocking moments, excitement, respect, relief and applause to the audience. The risk of a major injury is a constantly compagnon.
All the more precious is the victory. Nevertheless, the attraction of mastering a descent in the fastest time outweighs the risk and has an almost addictive factor, regardless of all side effects. Downhill skiers seem to love mastering difficult situations that others fear.
Everybody for the nation and for themselves alone against everyone. At the end they give everything to stand at the very top to be a downhill winner.
Who wants to win must surpass oneself and accepting the challenge of gravity and centrifugal forces in an almost uncontrollable zone without getting brutally wiped out. Downhill - „Ain‘t No Mountain Steep Enough“ - is a film that wants to find out and learn what exactly drives these athletes to go beyond their limits and how they are able to exceed them steadily.
TIMEFRAME „Downhill“ follows today‘s best and most charismatic downhill skiers to tell their story at iconic downhill arenas.
The emotional life and the intensive experiences of the downhill skiers are shown as close-up and un- varnished as possible throughout the entire season. A documentation about 12 month, from the last World Cup race in 2024 in Saalbach to the last race of the next season and its highlight the World Champion- ships in Saalbach 2025.
CAST OF CHAMPIONS The right balance of tension and coolness, mental strength, courage, concentration, body control, self-confidence and individual skiing technique are all characterizes of winners. Due to their origin, nation, culture, selfhood and personal way of racing, the best own very different personalities with great charisma.
A'INT NO MOUNTAIN STEEP ENOUGH The creators of „Streif - One Hell of a Ride“ with Gerald Salmina being the producer and director, enjoy the trust of the downhill skiers and their teams on a near level. As well as at the backstage areas and during the notorious and critical race stages an exclusive access provides a close look behind the scenes and the ability to connect at the races.
MOTHER NATURE Warm, cold, bumpy, smooth, icy, soft, narrow and always challenging. On a race day, it shows whet- her the competitors understood the course and have successfully adapted themselves and their way of skiing but also if their self-confidence and strength to be able to risk everything to win will be 100%. Danger lurks along the entire course, a brief lack of concentration and within fractions of a second, everything changes. Just on the road to victory, an abrupt end comes with a tedious way that takes months to come back. A thin racing suit, airbags as well as helmets offer only minimal protection. As in hardly any other sport, personal responsibility and self-confidence are 100% required.
BATTLE OF NATIONS For fans, trainers and sports associations, the World Championship is a competition of nations: The wild Viking from Norway against the Austrian god of thunder. The German underdogs against the dominating nations, the fearless speed queen from Italy against the Swiss clockwork,
the full throttle races from Austria and the surprising Norwegian team. In hardly any other sport do so many different female and male characters with their country clichés come together as in skiing. A battle of nations, national teams and suppliers. And yet, only those who surpass them- selves and go into the risky, almost uncontrollable area at the crucial moment and eventually master it, will end up at the top. The victory of an individual athlete and its team for themselves and their nation.
