#4

Keep it Burning, France, 2024, Spain, Guillaume Broust

Jury motivation: This film is simply excellent in every aspect - cinematography, editing, musical design, characters... Director Guillaume Brust has managed to combine all these elements into a flawless festival product that documents the successful ascent of the Tower of the Nameless. In itself, the mythical rock column at Karakoram is a distinctly cinematic and it is brilliantly represented in the film. Visually - from various angles, but also very skillfully - as an emotional object, to the to which three climbers aspire. Additional drama is brought by the fact that these are two brothers and their 70-year-old father. It is also achieved the right balance between beautiful shots, emotions, adventure and sporting elements.
#5

THE SILENT ESCAPE, 2023, Poland, Oswald Rodrigo Pereira

Jury motivation: True to its title, it doesn't contain many words. Just as many as are needed for the story. It is presented mainly through the extraordinary pictures shot by the film's author, Osvaldo Rodrigo Pereira. But also through the precisely calculated music, which is main accomplice in the overall emotion, and by the colour corrections of the Szymon Ronowicz. There's nothing superfluous in this film - it's minimalist, but paradoxically set against an imposing mountain landscape. This artistic touch is another reason why the end result is exciting!
#6

Maurice Baquet, l'accord, 2023, France, Gilles Chappaz

Jury motivation: An exceptionally enjoyable film that you’ll want to watch again. An intriguing story, masterfully told with perfect pacing. The elegant harmony between modern footage and invaluable archival images and photos, some dating back 100 years, is truly captivating. Director Gilles Chappaz guides us, with an infectiously good mood, through the cultural and mountaineering history of 20th-century France in one breath. A magnificent illustration of the harmony between sport and art as integral elements of a national cultural heritage that has profoundly influenced and shaped both European and global spiritual traditions.
