70 Years since the First Ascent of K2
This presentation commemorates the 70th anniversary of the first successful ascent of K2. Doychin will provide a historical overview of the discovery and exploration of K2 and its surrounding area, highlighting the early attempts to reach the summit and the most notable climbs in its storied history. He will also review the existing routes to the peak.
Doychin Boyanov, born on June 1, 1976, in Sofia, is a renowned mountaineer and explorer with a wealth of experience in high-altitude climbing. Since 2006, he has been a regular doctoral student and assistant in the Department of Tourism, Climbing, and Orienteering at the National Sports Academy. He has been a member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Climbing and Mountaineering Federation since 2002 and is the founder of the sports club “Vertical World.” In 2012, he earned his doctorate from the National Sports Academy and is also a member of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.
Doychin’s remarkable climbing achievements include: Elbrus (5642 m), Broad Peak (8047 m), Pakistan – up to 7300 m, and Damavand (5671 m),Lenin Peak (7134 m), Everest (8848 m), China (Tibet) – without oxygen,K2 (8611 m), Pakistan – up to 8150 m., Nanga Parbat (8125 m), Pakistan, and Hidden Peak (8068 m), Pakistan – up to 6500 m.
Doychin’s achievements have inspired many in the mountaineering community, and he is well-respected for his contributions to the field.
